The New Wave Story: How a Spare Bedroom Sparked a Multi-Disciplinary Business Revolution

In 2016, Reuben Bergola sat at a desk in his spare bedroom in Broadbeach Waters, helping a small group of business owners with their books. It was a modest setup — just five clients, no staff, and a determination to do things differently.

What Reuben discovered early on was that these clients didn’t just need bookkeeping — they needed advice, structure, and strategy. They wanted a partner who understood business from the inside out, not just someone to lodge a BAS.

New Wave began here, in 2016, with Reuben launching a bookkeeping service from a spare bedroom in Broadbeach Waters. As demand grew, so did the offering. Launched in 2018, New Wave Financial Planning was created to help clients move beyond business finances and into long-term personal wealth. Led by Wayne Kampen, the division supports clients with tailored advice across superannuation, investment, retirement planning, and insurance, all designed to fit within their broader life and business goals. With decades of experience, Wayne takes a calm, practical approach to navigating complex financial landscapes. New Wave Insurance – Led by Amanda Bird 
In 2020, New Wave expanded again — this time into risk protection. With clients actively growing their businesses and assets, tailored insurance strategies became essential. Amanda Bird stepped in to lead New Wave Insurance, bringing with her a practical, client-first mindset. This division helps individuals, families, and businesses secure what matters most — from income protection and life insurance to commercial and asset coverage. What sets it apart is the integration: insurance advice works hand-in-hand with accounting and financial planning, creating a smarter, more strategic layer of protection that’s proactive, not reactive.

Fourth Wave Digital – Led by Sam Barnes
In 2024, New Wave launched its Digital Marketing division to help clients solve a pressing problem: how to attract consistent, high-quality leads. While the accounting team supports business strategy and growth, this new arm, led by Sam Barnes, focuses on implementation. Sam and his team deliver results-driven marketing through automation, SEO, paid ads, and funnels, helping small businesses scale smarter and faster. The emphasis is on performance, not just presence. New Wave Law – Led by Jameson Smith
